Harare Man Escapes Death By A Whisker After Getting Set On Fire Over Phone Theft

A Harare man reportedly escaped death by a whisker after one of the patrons at a bar set him on fire over cellphone theft.

Munyaradzi Dzvaka almost lost his life after he was set on fire for accusing Simbarashe Manangazira (23) of stealing a cell phone.

Manangazira was arrested for setting Dzvaka ablaze. He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

Circumstances are that on September 5, Manangazira and Dzvaka were drinking beer at  Mukanya homestead together with other patrons.

It is alleged that while they were drinking, Tafadzwa Mukanya’s cellphone was stolen and Dzvaka confronted Manangazira accusing him of stealing the phone.

The court heard that the confrontation did not go down well with Manangazira. Infuriated by the accusation, he stormed outside and returned with an unknown liquid which he poured over Dzvaka before setting him on fire.

H-Metro reports that Dzvaka sustained severe burns on his face after the incident.

Magistrate Mangosi remanded Manangazira in custody and referred him to the High Court for bail consideration.

Farai Munemo from Glenwood Park, Epworth is said to have resorted to taking the drastic action of hanging himself following a disagreement with his mother.

On the fateful day, the minor allegedly had an altercation with his younger sibling. Their mother is reported to have told Farai off for hitting his sibling. Seemingly stung by his mother’s words, Farai is reported to have gone to his room showing contrition.

Once in his room, it is suspected that he took a rope and hanged himself.
