Mixed Reactions As Football Icon George Shaya Offered Free Burial Space At Warren Hills
There have been mixed reactions after the late football icon George Shaya was offered free burial space by the City of Harare.
The Mastermind, as Shaya is affectionately known by multitudes of fans, passed away at his home in Glen Norah A on Tuesday. He was 77. The five-time Soccer Star of the Year had been battling illness for some time. In 2019, doctors recommended that Shaya’s left leg should be amputated.
Following his death, many have called for Shaya to be declared a national hero. The City of Harare also announced that they were offering Shaya burial space at the city’s Warren Hills cemetery.
In a post on social media, the City of Harare said,
The City of Harare has offered burial space for the Legendary Football Icon George Shaya at Warren Hills Cemetery. May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.

Did you offer him a residential stand when he was alive? Or you actually destroyed the one he had? I’m just saying.
