Police Officers Face Dismissal After Video Of Them Playing ‘Munyu Hauchavavi’ Song Goes Viral
Police officers who posted a video of themselves on social media while the song “Munyu Hauchavavi” was playing in the background are now facing dismissal.
In the video which went viral on social media, unidentified police officers can be seen displaying bond notes while Blessing Shumba’s song ‘Munyu Hauchavavi’ can be heard playing in the background. The police officers were allegedly mocking their meagre salaries.
After the video went viral, the police officers were reportedly summoned by the force’s law and order section in Harare for disciplinary action.
According to reports reaching iHarare, the police officers are set to be charged under the Police Act and possibly face dismissal. Recently, the accused police officers were vetted by the controversial unit which sought to determine if their actions were not part of a grand plan for mutiny.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a police source told New Zimbabwe that it is not allowed to post such videos online especially in uniform.
The source claims that if the police officers are not fortunate they could be accused of trying to cause alarm and despondency or actively participating in politics.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has since issued a statement warning serving members against using social media platforms to express discontent over poor salaries.
The police force threatened to take action against its members, whom it says were denigrating the government.
“This headquarters has noted with concern the proliferation of photos and videos on social media platforms where police officers are openly seen denigrating the government, uttering political statements and improperly dressed with some female officers posting sexually seductive photos and videos in full Zimbabwe Republic Police uniform.
This conduct is tarnishing the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s image and is contrary to the dictates of the disciplinary code as espoused in the Police Act [Chapter 11:10.]
Commanders are implored to immediately identify such members and take decisive action which includes disciplinary trials and boards of inquiry (suitability),” reads part of the statement.
