President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended the level 2 national lockdown by two weeks.

Announcing the development, the Secretary of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Ndavaningi Mangwana wrote;

“His Excellency the President has extended the Level 2 Lockdown Measures announced on the 7th of September 2021 by another two weeks, under the same conditions.”

This comes after President Mnangagwa partially relaxed the strict national lockdown regulations which were put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19 on the 7th of September. He moved the national lockdown from level 4 to level 2.

Under level 2 lockdown, the national curfew is between 10 PM and 5.30 AM.  Businesses are allowed to operate from 8 AM up to 7 PM.

Public gatherings not exceeding more than 100 people are permitted, while intercity travel is also permitted with observance of public health measures.

Meanwhile, even though there has been a low death rate and the vaccine rollout has been successful, there is a spike in new Covid-19 cases in some schools.

Statistics from the Ministry of Health and Child Care indicate that most of the new infections are in schools.

11 schools across the country were allegedly forced to shut down recently after a large number of students and teachers tested positive for Covid-19.
