Resign If You Don't Want To Be Vaccinated Against Covid-19: Minister Gives Civil Servants Ultimatum

Zimbabwe’s civil servants have been warned to resign from their government jobs if they do not want to be vaccinated against Covid-19. The ultimatum was delivered by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi on Tuesday.

The Justice Minister made the remarks when he appeared on a program on the ZiFM radio station. Ziyambi said that while the government would not force civil servants to gt vaccinated against Covid-19, the only way they could enjoy their rights is if they resigned from their jobs. Sid Ziyambi,

“We are not forcing you to be vaccinated but if you’re a government employee, for the protection of others and the people that you are serving, get vaccinated.”

“If you want to enjoy your rights, which are in the constitution, you can resign,” he said.

The justice minister also singled out teachers, who form the bulk of the civil service.

Ziyambi said, “there will come a time when we will not want any teacher who is not vaccinated.”

Ziyambi’s remarks come barely 48 hours after Vice President Consttniton Chiweng warned that a time is coming when all people who are not vaccinated against the respiratory disease will be restricted from accessing public places.

VP Chiwenga was speaking in his capacity as the Minister of Health and Child Care.

As the Minister of Health and Child Care, I will make sure that vaccination certificates will be required for people to access public places although we have relaxed a few things. I, therefore, encourage people to be vaccinated as it will be difficult to enjoy services when lockdown measures are relaxed.

We will allow you to watch soccer, watch cricket and enjoy food in a restaurant but you will be required to produce a vaccination certificate. We will not allow you to enter public places without a vaccination certificate.

As of 05 September 2021, Zimbabwe has 125 550 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including 116 401 recoveries and 4 482 deaths. To date, a total of 2 713 548 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 since the inoculation program started in February.
