Two Teachers Lose $43,000 In Knife-point Robbery

Two teachers from Rusununguko High School in Shurugwi lost cash and valuables worth more than Z$43,000 after two armed robbers pounced on them.

The police are investigating the knife-point robbery which took place at Muchakata bus top. Police named the victims as Carl Masvaya, a full-time teacher, and student-teacher Tafadzwa Mandipa.

According to the police report, the two teachers had just dropped off at a bus stop near their school around 10 PM when they were confronted by two armed robbers who emerged from the bushes brandishing knives and threatening to kill them while demanding cash, and cellphones.

The thieves got away with Z$7,000 and US$6 in cash, two cellphones [an Itel S16 and a Tecno], two satchels with one containing clothes plus three pairs of white tackies.

Combined, the cash and property are worth more than Z$43,000, ZimLive reports.

A report was made at Donga Police Post near Chachacha Growth point under RRB 4688901 .

The police in Shurugwi is appealing to anyone with information on the suspects to step forward.

In other news, iHarare reported that an armed robber who was part of a gang that was targeting gross border smugglers coming from South Africa was shot dead by the police following a shootout.

Four other members of the gang which had been terrorizing motorists along the Beitbridge – Masvingo road were arrested following the firefight. The police have since launched a manhunt for the rest of the gang members.

The gang’s reign of terror came to an abrupt end when the police swiftly reacted to a report of an armed robbery in progress near the Litumba Business Centre.

The gang used to target border jumpers and cross-border smugglers who used gates 2, 5, 7 and 8, along the Limpopo River to illegally enter the country from South Africa.
