Zimbabweans Cry Foul After ZUPCO Hikes Fares
Commuters have bemoaned the recent upward review of Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) urban route fares.
Commuters expressed outrage over the new Zupco fares that came into effect today, with the official transport operator now charging well above what the pirate kombis and mushikashika charge.
ZUPCO which is enjoying a monopoly hiked fares by 100 per cent.
Here are some of the reactions over the new doubled Zupco fares;
Very unreasonable how can ZUPCO omnibus charges 1usd or R20 which is 80ZWL. It doesn’t make sense.

I don’t think this increase in ZUPCO fares are anything to do with the economy, but a result of a monopoly created by government. For most of those distances Kombis charge less. I really wish if officials could relate; but then they drive VX, and get fuel coupons. @Jamwanda2 https://t.co/uGtqSsziuV

The ZUPCO transport model has failed , Unaccessible to everyone and expensive… Didn’t they say cheap transport for everyone? pic.twitter.com/14uIPf7lBR

Its now more than the combis’ fares yet ZUPCO get subsidized fuel.The mushikashikas now look up to ZUPCO to set https://t.co/3GSVa5xufH times they charge less than ZUPCO but still make profit despite buying their own fuel sometimes on the black market. LOOTING at ZUPCO!

How does Zupco review fares when salaries are stagnant pic.twitter.com/QNtD2nXo6v

Transport allowance for a tr is ZWL 1455 per month & ZUPCO charges ZWL 110 a trip. A day the tr needs ZWL 220 for transport. In most circumstances trs need up to ZWL 440 per day as they board two commuters to work. This is the incapacitation #BurnTheFraud #SaveOurEducationZw pic.twitter.com/eaZhgv6xGY
